ECMS will provide long day care and kindergarten services to families in the south-west city suburb. Wendy Lovell, the Victorian Minister for Children and Early Childhood Development, made the announcement together with Hobsons Bay councillors.
“ECMS is a leader in the early years sector in Victoria, educating and caring for more than 6000 children at 61 services across the state,” Lovell said.
She explained that a formal collaboration between ECMS and nearby Newport Gardens Primary School would ensure a smooth transition for preschool children to school.
The state government has invested $1 million in developing the centre, due to open at the start of 2014, to increase the access to children’s services for local families.
“This project will increase the local long day care capacity by 36 places and kindergarten capacity by 66 places,” Lovell said.
She said the centre would be a one-stop shop not just for children’s services but also for maternal and child health, early childhood intervention, playgroups and the Hobsons Bay toy library.
“This brand-new centre is another example of what can be achieved when the Victorian government works hand in hand with the local community,” she said.
