More scholarships are now available to help existing and future early childhood educators improve their skills, ACT Minister for Education and Training Joy Burch announced recently.
A further 29 scholarships are being offered under the Early Childhood Scholarship Program, which helps successful applicants gain their Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care and meet new qualification requirements.
“The early years of a child’s life are vital in their continuing development,” Burch said.
“Under the new National Quality Framework, educators working with children are required to hold or be working towards a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care.
“The ACT Government is helping our educators meet these new requirements by offering these scholarships to those who are already working in the education and care sector, as well as those who are interested in entering the sector.”
Successful applicants will have their course fees paid and receive a one off payment of $300 to help pay for study resources such as books or an iPad. For those who need to study during work hours, the scholarship also covers the cost for their employer to hire a replacement for two hours per week.
“The ACT Government is dedicated to further developing our already excellent teacher and care capabilities,” Burch said.
“We have made 85 scholarships available under this program since 2011-12, and this extension will take the total to 114. Extending the program was an election commitment.”
Applications are assessed as they are received, so potential recipients are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.Do you have an idea for a story?
