NSW Outside School Hours Care service recognised for exceptional practice

A second NSW children’s education and care service has been awarded the Excellent rating, the highest rating a service can receive under the National Quality Framework (NQF).

Warrawee Care Centre joins 10 other services across Australia that have been rated Excellent by the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA), including the only other Excellent rated service in NSW, Amarina Early Learning Centre.

ACECQA board chair Rachel Hunter congratulated the Outside School Hours Care service on its commitment to sustained excellent practice.

“Warrawee has demonstrated exceptional programming and practice, and collaborative partnerships with families and the community,” Hunter said.

“We are extremely pleased to award this Excellent rating and congratulate Warrawee on their outstanding achievement.

“The Excellent rating highlights the important role providers play in influencing continuous quality improvement for children’s education and care.”

About the service

Warrawee Care Centre demonstrated excellence in the areas of:

  • collaborative partnerships with professional, community or research organisations
  • inclusive partnerships with children and families
  • practice and environments that enhance children’s learning and growth.

Warrawee’s targeted programs and strategies have led to a number of exceptional community and professional partnerships established in the local area and with families.

For example, Warrawee has a strong relationship with a local psychology practice, providing support for educators and education for families on topics such as anxiety in children and bullying. Families and educators can receive professional advice and support to put strategies in place to ensure the best outcomes for the children.

To facilitate learning on a range of levels, Warrawee educators incorporate challenging experiences and exploring the natural environment into their programs. By participating in interactive activities, including woodwork, gardening and animal handling and feeding, the children understand the importance of caring for things, sustainability and safety.

Taking an active leadership role in the sector, Warrawee has promoted their targeted programs to other services, including conducting visits to Warrawee. The service’s coordinator has also delivered seminars on risk taking and challenging experiences at several conferences and events.

About the Excellent rating

The Excellent rating is the highest rating that can be given to children’s education and care services. It can only be awarded by ACECQA and is not a rating given during the assessment and rating process.

Providers with a service that have received an overall rating of ‘Exceeding the National Quality Standard’ can apply for the Excellent rating.
